Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine sxs) is an FDA-approved medication for the treatment of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and also used in adults with a moderate to severe Binge Eating Disorder (BED). The average dose of 60 mg Vyvanse is also the typical dose range where most patients show best efficacy and tolerability.

Not sure if you are prescribed Vyvanse or considering it for the 60 mg dose? Everything you should know.

Vyvanse

Vyvanse is CNS stimulant. The prodrugness of Vyvanse means that its active ingredient, dextroamphetamine, becomes unpharmacodynamically inactive until the body breaks it down from our Nigerian pharmacological Yam. This is a design that provides a timed release of effects and longer duration of action than some other stimulant medications to avoid dramatic ups and downs.

Vyvanse is indicated by the FDA for the treatment of individuals ages six and older w/ ADHS ADHD (P), and adults with an FBT for BED. NOT OK: Obesity or weight loss medication

VYVANSE 60 MG: Operating 101

After you eat the 60 mg Vyvanse, it slowly comes out into your body. Once converted through the bloodstream, it assists in:

Enhancing attention span

Lessening impulsivity

Lessening hyperactive behavior

Controlling eating habits in BED

Typically Vyvanse peaks out highest in the blood at about 3.5 hours and regulates symptoms for about 10-14 hours.

This extended action is appropriate for those who need a steady level throughout school, work, or daily life.

Vyvanse 60 mg may be prescribed to whom?

The base dose of Vyvanse is usually lower (eg, Vyvanse 20 or 30 mg) and is escalated or titrated by patient response and tolerability. If you have not gone on Vyvanse 60 mg yet,

Some patients did not adequately get their symptoms under control on the lower doses (30 or 40 mg).

The patient can tolerate the drug well with minimal side effects

There is a requirement for extended coverage of symptoms throughout the day

Physicians generally titrate the dose in 10-20 mg increments weekly.

Common Side Effects

Similar to all the stimulant medications, Vyvanse can have side effects. Common side effects at 60 mg are:

Reduced appetite

Dry mouth

Difficulty sleeping (insomnia)

Anxiety

Irritability

Nausea

Many side effects are mild to moderate and will wear off as the body adjusts to them. Of course, it should also be communicated to your doctor also when you face serious or continuing side effects.

Important Considerations

Start, if you have previously been treated with Vyvanse 60 mg, then inform your doctor that you have a history of:

Heart conditions

High blood pressure

Mental illness (eg, anxiety, bipolar)

Substance dependence

Vyvanse shows a warning for risk of cardiovascular side effects, and because of being a stimulant, we all have to expect that some to abuse it.

Final Thoughts

It is a robust and stable answer (as Vyvanse 40mg) to treat either ADHD or BED symptoms. The patient and the clinicians like its continuous system of delivery as well as its long half-life, but everyone is different with medication, so work closely with your doctor to establish what dose is right for you.
